EnBIO Releases OsteoZip Surface

EnBIO has launched its OsteoZip surface, which enhances the osteointegration and early-bone

fixation of orthopedic implants into host bone tissue, according to the Ireland-based firm. OsteoZip, a new hydroxyapatite surface for orthopedic and dental implants, is applied with EnBIO’s CoBlast surface modification process. The CoBlast process involves no temperature extremes and requires no wet chemistry. In addition, the processing equipment is a modified version of standard grit-blasting equipment, according to the company. The hydroxyapatite on the OsteoZip surface is crystalline, making it resistant to shears and separation. The thin hydroxyapatite layer also counteracts the problem of traditional hydroxyapatite coatings, resulting in better long-term stability relative to traditional coatings, company officials said. EnBIO is a manufacturer of surface modification technologies for metallic medical implants.
